A Knight's Pledge, or Sir Bryce's Song

One night as I went a walking, through the wind and the rain,
I came upon a noble knight kneeling down on the lane.
His head was raised to the heavens, his prayers heard in the mist.
He said St. Michael please heed my words for I am a knight of the list.

For I've sworn to my King and my country. I've pledged by my sword and my shield.
And if in death I too may defend I pledge even this to yield.

My name is Sir Bryce de Byram I was knighted but yesterday
And now its off to war I do go to stand by my King unafraid.
I serve as both knight and bard of my brave brothers in battle I'd sing
But who shall now tell our tales if I fall to defend the king.

For I've sworn to my King and my country. I've pledged by my sword and my shield.
And if in death I too may defend I pledge even this to yield.

Please allow me the strength to fight with a valor and courage most bold.
Let my heart stay pure and my sword be swift as the Atlantian Knights of old.
Let me remember all I was taught, and bring honor to my belt and my name.
That I may fight with courage and zeal and be not the weak link in the chain.

For I've sworn to my King and my country. I've pledged by my sword and my shield.
And if in death I too may defend I pledge even this to yield.

At that moment the rain lifted and a moon beam shone down on him bright.
It seemed as if his prayers had been heard so he raised up to join in the fight.
Well I saw not of the battle I know only what I've been told
That brave Sir Bryce fought with honor and heart like the Atlantain Knights of old.

For he'd pledged to his King and his country to live by his sword and his shield
And if in death he too could defend he pledged even this to yield
. . . and if in death he too could defend he pledged even this to yield.
